Understanding the UNC Rebuilding
Rebuilding a National Movement of Excellence, Participation, and Pride in Sports
Transforming Sports
Transforming Sports Through Key Initiatives
The UNC’s policy focuses on revitalizing the sports sector with several key initiatives aimed at improving access to sports, developing talent, and promoting healthy lifestyles. From providing grants to local clubs and schools to ensuring that public sports facilities are accessible and safe, these initiatives will lay the foundation for long-term sporting excellence. The National Youth Sports & Fitness Initiative will help engage the youth through free or low-cost programs, while the Elite Athlete Development Program will provide top athletes with scholarships and international exposure. The Physical Education in Schools initiative ensures that sports become a core part of every child’s education, creating opportunities for careers and athletic success.

Building the Ecosystem
Building the Ecosystem
The United National Congress (UNC) recognizes that sports are an essential pillar for national unity, youth development, and economic growth. With sports playing a crucial role in building community cohesion, fostering healthy lifestyles, and promoting social engagement, the UNC is committed to making sports accessible to every citizen. After years of neglect under previous administrations, the UNC aims to reinvest in sports infrastructure, talent development, and grassroots programs to ensure that every citizen has the opportunity to excel in their sport. This commitment will reignite the spirit of pride, participation, and excellence in Trinidad and Tobago’s sporting culture.
Restoring Pride and Excellence in Trinidad and Tobago’s Sports
Through these comprehensive initiatives, the UNC will restore pride, participation, and performance in sports throughout Trinidad and Tobago. From grassroots development to elite international competition, the UNC is committed to making the country a powerhouse of athletic achievement. By fostering community involvement, enhancing infrastructure, and creating sustainable programs, Trinidad and Tobago will lead the way in sports, offering opportunities for all citizens to engage in sports as a source of personal and national pride.
Sport as Industry
Transforming Sport into a Viable Economic Sector
The UNC aims to make sports a thriving economic sector by developing a National Sport Policy that includes merit-based rewards and incentives. By enhancing regional tournaments and promoting sports tourism, Trinidad and Tobago will attract global attention and investment. The country will also promote careers in sports medicine, coaching, management, and physiotherapy, while incentivizing research and development in sports science and technology. The Ministry of Trade will work alongside national sports bodies to ensure athletes can benefit from international trade agreements, boosting the economic potential of the sports industry.

Sporting Infrastructure
Building World-Class Sports Infrastructure
The UNC is committed to rebuilding and maintaining the sporting infrastructure needed to foster talent and attract international teams. This includes building state-of-the-art academies, training centers, and ensuring top-tier facilities like swimming pools and athletics tracks are available for both local and international use. Furthermore, the UNC plans to provide professional training for coaches and managers across all disciplines. These investments will create a competitive environment, support national sporting organizations (NSOs), and ensure the proper management of sporting events at all levels.
A New National Sports Commission
Establishing a National Sports Commission for Accountability and Progress
To ensure effective implementation of the sports policy, the UNC will establish a National Sports Commission. This commission will advise the government on all matters related to sport and recreation, coordinate efforts with educational institutions, and manage the National Sports Fund to finance development at all levels. Additionally, the commission will ensure clear communication and effective relationships between the Ministry of Sport, the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago, and other stakeholders involved in the sporting sector.
